DaVinci Resolve Tutorial: COLOR GRADING IN SLOG

I love the SLOG of the xdcam f3, I love it!

Whenever I have had a cheap shoot with complicated exteriors my first choice has always been to use the xdcam f3 because of its logarithmic curve. Nowadays it doesn’t matter if we record in xdcam format or with an external recorder, in both cases we can use the curve to increase the dynamic range in what in my opinion is “THE ALEXA LOWCOST”.

The only problem is that Davinci’s v9 includes LUTS for the f65 t’s own SLOG2 format of the upcoming F55 and F5. There is no factory option to help us with the old and beloved XDCAM F3 (have I already said I love that camera????).

To solve this I include a color correction preset and a LUT (to be used interchangeably) to start the color grading session.

An application would be for example to throw the PRESET or the LUT on the nodal in TRACK to homogenize all the footage (considering that there are no other shots without this curve in the montage). Otherwise, you can apply it clip by clip before working.

And if all this interests you we have a couple of DaVinci Resolve courses you can do: the next basic one is in February and the advanced one this December🙂

Here are the presets from the DaVinci Resolve SLog tutorial (for DaVinci Resolve version 9)
