DJI introduces the new Mavic Minithe compact and foldable version of a drone focused on the market of videobloggers. Its small size makes it a perfect complement to travel and its simplicity in a tool for everyday use is that it measures only 140mm and reaches 249 grams in weight.
The new DJI Mavic Mini is capable of capturing 12 megapixel stills and 2.7K video at 30 frames per second and HD 1080p at 60fps. It does not reach the 4K that is currently dominating the market, but by generating H.264 files with a transfer rate of 40 MPbps it may be the option for the type of use for which it is intended. It is an intermediate model between the Spark and Mavic series, the sensor is a 1/2.3″ CMOS and has an optic that reaches 83 degrees of view. They have opted for a fixed aperture of 2.8f and the stabilization system consists of 3 axes.
Unlike DJI’s top models, the Mavic Mini only has altitude control sensors located on the lower part of the body, in this model they have left out the anti-collision systems. The maximum altitude it reaches is 3,000m above sea level and it has a 30-minute battery life, a great advantage for such a small model.
The Mavic Mini can be controlled remotely from a distance of 4 kilometers by transmitting the HD signal in real time via Wi-Fi signal. It has different types of recording modes, depending on the pilot’s level. Position model is the simplest, followed by S or sport and CineSmooth (C) for more advanced operations. In addition to these modes it also has a series of memories with programmed flights so that by simply pressing a button the drone performs a flight automatically. Among these programmed flights is the rocket mode to ascend the drone vertically having a zenithal plane of the ground. Orbit flight that maintains altitude and tracks an object while making turns at a constant speed. The drone moves backwards and upwards. And finally the propeller or time-lapse modes to generate aspirational movements on an object and perform timelapses.
DJI also presents the DJI Fly mobile application that includes tutorials for handling the drone and features for editing videos. The company insists on the simplicity of handling the drone and emphasizes that anyone can use it even without previous experience.
It goes on sale in 2 different formats and can be reserved on their website from October 30. The standard Mavic Mini costs 399 euros and includes a remote control, battery, a spare set of propellers and the necessary tools. The Mavic Mini Fly More costs €499 adds a couple more batteries, three propellers instead of two, case, a 360-degree protector for the propellers and a two-way charging hub. They also release the add-ons separately to customize it to the consumer’s liking.
