DNxHD and DNxHR families come to RED cameras

RED has released a firmware update that enables recording in the DNxHD and DNxHR codecs for its DSMC2 line of cameras, which includes Weapon, Scarlet-W and Raven.

These codecs are encapsulated in an MXF and facilitate the entire post-production process, as they can be imported directly into Avid without the need for any transcoding.

Another advantage is that the recording of these files and the RAW (.r3d) files can be simultaneous, so that we will obtain a clip with full quality and color range, together with another proxy clip for editing.

This is a free update and it is already possible to download it through this link. RED has also posted a series of examples recorded in .r3d with their different cameras so you can test the necessary workflows. You will find them here.
