The black and white treatment not only consists of removing saturation from the image, but can also have a slight color tone even if it is not visible to the naked eye.
This week you will find in Red 709 a LUT called“Night B&W“. This is a black and white style with a slight magenta tint that works very well on night scenes. If your shots also contain highlights, as you can see in the example below, this will add punch to the image.
This LUT already has a contrast adjustment, but if you use it on logarithmic material you will still have to set the black level you want.
