Dolby upgrades its PRM-4220 monitor

Dolby has announced an update for its PRM-4220 professional reference monitor.

The changes have been introduced primarily to allow this monitor to keep up with evolving workflows and to expand the versatility of integration in installations with limited space.

The PRM-4220 now features a more ergonomic design and a slimmer profile, as well as a reduction of almost a third in weight compared to the previous model.

This is an LCD flat panel monitor, with 42 inches diagonal and a resolution of 1920×1080. Its refresh rate is 120Hz and it has a viewing angle of 90 degrees horizontally (45 to each side from the center point).

It displays DCI P3 in all HD and 2K formats, supporting up to 12-bit, 48fps and 60fps HFR (High Frame Rate), ACES workflows and even 1D and 3D LUTs (including Nucoda‘s) for previewing looks or matching all production environments.

It has HD-SDI, HDMI and DisplayPort connections.

One of its major advantages is the ability to reproduce the full latitude of today’s high-end cameras, with true black levels and detail in dark tones, high contrast and dynamic range, as well as very good performance over a long period of time.

Thanks to all these qualities Dolby has been adopted as the standard for reference monitoring by many post houses, including Deluxe (Los Angeles, Chicago, Sydney and London), Digital District (Paris), The Farm (London), Nightshift (Paris) Light Iron (Hollywood and New York), Soundfirm (Sydney, Melbourne and Beijing) and The Mill (London, Los Angeles and New York).

In addition, Codex Digital says that Dolby PRM-4220 is a great companion to Codex Review, as it allows you to reproduce and quality control the original camera data, on set, with great accuracy and reliability.

We remind you that in December there will be a course on color calibration and color management. In this link you have all the information about the contents and how to sign up.
