The F55 is a camera belonging to Sony’s CineAlta series, capable of capturing in 4K resolutions (4096 x 2160) internally, using the XAVC codec. When combined with the AXS-R5 and AXS R7 recorders, the camera’s capabilities are greatly expanded, for example, up to 240fps when working in 2K, or recording in the RAW X-OCN format.
It is the latter quality that interests us today, as the clip we have shared is shot with the F55 and AXS-R7 in RAW X-OCN. This is a relatively new format, whose acronym stands for “Extended Original Camera Negative”. This Raw codec supports 16-bit color depth and has a higher compression ratio than Sony’s previous Raw, resulting in 30% smaller files.
