FilmLight and The Pixel Farm have teamed up to market a complete digital film restoration workflow. To do so, they have formed a strategic alliance by bringing together their Baselight color correction and PFClean restoration and remastering systems. And it seems that they are not the only ones that have taken this kind of decisions to try to unify several processes and make the systems more and more complete. Recently there have been several companies that have decided to merge their software or integrate some within others, such as the acquisition of Singular Software by Red Giant, or the merger of the Eyeon Connection plugin with Avid.
Baselight is one of the most powerful color correction systems on the market. Its main features include 4K color correction and real-time mastering. On the other hand, PFClean, one of the most widely used restoration software, automates previously time-consuming tasks. It also has a set of tools that non-destructively clean and restore images.
Due to recent advances in Digital Intermediate and new restoration technologies, this is one of the fastest growing sectors in post-production. Therefore, it is necessary for systems to adapt to all these new developments and provide facilities, making it possible to remaster films at a resolution and state that has never been achieved before. This is the main objective of the two companies.
Thanks to this link, color correction operations can be performed, for example, while images are being restored (in parallel). In addition, all DI (Digital Intermediate) workflows are supported, including those using ACES.
FilmLight customers will be able to purchase a Baselight-equipped version of PFClean from the company’s regular distributors. This will enable them to achieve increased productivity with these two fully integrated systems in a more affordable way.
