During April 7-10, attendees at the NAB2014 exhibition (in Las Vegas), will be able to see how the development of workflows designed by several companies together is progressing.
In this case, we will talk particularly about the presence of FilmLight, which will showcase innovative technologies in collaboration with four manufacturers:
Dolby Laboratories
If we start with the company’s main product, we will find that Baselight (high-performance color correction system) will include the new Dolby Vision technology.
The latest from Dolby enhances the quality of each individual pixel, providing high dynamic range (HDR) and a wider color gamut for color correction and mastering.
In addition, the entire Dolby Vision suite will be on display at the Dolby booth, including a high-contrast P3 monitor with 4000 nit.
The Foundry
Although we don’t know many details yet, we do know that work has been underway so that in early April we will see an enhanced version of “Baselight for Nuke“, one of the three color correction toolsets that are part of Baselight Editions.
This software is currently in beta, so the development of a new version means great advantages for VFX creators, who will have greater control over their compositions without risking that sooner or later there may be color changes in each shot thanks to the integration with all Baselight systems.
Sony
At Baselight we will also see support for the latest enhancements to the F55 camera, with color modes available for the S-log 3 and S-gamut 3 curve. In this way, Sony continues its long journey with digital cinema cameras in collaboration with FilmLight.
Codex
And finally, the new Codex and FilmLight partnership to link the Codex Vault with Baselight.
Color decisions can be made on set using the Baselight FLIP real-time image processor. These corrections are then rendered on the dailies delivered by Codex Vault, along with audio synchronization and metadata support.
Metadata is stored in BLG format (based on OpenEXR), the same format used by Baselight systems, so that this integration works throughout the entire post-production process.
In addition, Codex said that at its booth at NAB it will be showcasing FilmLight’s latest addition to its Baselight product range: Baselight Dailies. This is Mac-based software capable of performing all the necessary work from the output of files from the camera all the way through to post-production.
