FT-One: the new 4K Super Slow Motion Camera

FOR-A, manufacturer and distributor of video and audio systems, will present its new FT-One camera at Cine Gear Expo. It is the first Super Slow Motion camera with full 4K resolution and variable frame rates.

Leveraging the high-sensitivity CMOS sensor that was originally developed, called “FT1-CMOS”, this camera will be able to capture images with full 4K (4096×2160) resolution and, they claim, a cinematic look.

To achieve the ability to capture motion in Super Slow Motion, the FT-One will achieve up to 1,000fps.

One of its possibilities is to capture and playback simultaneously in 4K. As a user preference, you can choose whether one output channel will offer 4K or four outputs at 1080p (HD-SDI); while the other output channel would offer down-converted (HD-SDI) for live viewing and menu control.

The images are captured as uncompressed raw files in the internal memory system (RAM), which has a recording capacity of 8.5 seconds. This data is then stored on the two SSDs. Each of them can store 75 seconds of 4K images, so we could have up to a maximum of 150 seconds (with the two SSDs).

FT-One uses a PL mount lens and thanks to its “Global Shutter” system (in which the entire frame is exposed during the same time interval) it allows the “rolling shutter” distortion effect to be avoided.

It weighs 7kg and has dimensions of 23.5 (W) x 2.94 (H) x 38.4 cm (D).

For the moment this is all the information available; to know more we will have to wait for the Cine Gear Expo, which will take place at Paramount Studios (Hollywood) between May 31 and June 2.
