A few days ago Fujifilm released the seventh generation of LTO (Linear Tape Open) tapes, Ultrium 7. These new magnetic tapes can store and archive data up to 15 TB (with compressed data) and reach transfer rates of 750 Mbps (with compressed data).
This represents a considerable increase in storage capacity, as only 6.25 TB was supported in the previous generation.
Among the technical innovations, the use of BaFe (Barium Ferrite) particles and NANOCUBIC technology has been improved, and a new 16 K memory (IC chip) has been introduced.
