JVC has announced the launch of its new GY-HM70 ProHD shoulder camcorder, which features the latest Falconbrid technology, enhanced low-light performance and dual battery functionality.
For less than $2,000, this new model is available for small production companies dedicated to social reportage or event production.
Main characteristics
The new GY-HM70 comes equipped with new features that enhance its reliability. These include a 29.5mm F1.2 wide-angle lens, which provides high sensitivity when recording situations where there may be no light reinforcement, 10x optical zoom and “dynamic zoom” up to 16x.
Its lens assembly is specifically designed for optimum results by combining it with a 1/2.3″ 12 Megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor (the same one used in the GY-HMQ10 4K).
It incorporates the Falconbrid device, an advanced video application technology that provides powerful signal processing on a single chip, handling large amounts of video data at high speeds. This makes it possible to capture, process and record images at 1080/60p, 1080/60i and 480/60i at different bit rates on the cards. It is also possible to capture still images (at 12 Megapixels) or record video and still images at the same time (with a resolution of 2 Megapixels).
Image quality and color accuracy are also improved due to JVC’s Super LoLux technology, which contributes to capturing accurate color indoors or in low-light conditions.
In addition, it features manual focus and iris functions, as well as shooting controls and both manual and automatic white balance.
Image recording
Full HD 1920×1080 image recording can be at 50p (GY-HM70E) or 60p (GY-HM70U). It will be made with the AVCHD Progressive codec, at 28Mbps, using two SDHC/SDXC solid state cards.
It includes a dual slot that allows the use of two cards and guarantees recording at all times, since when the card in slot A is full or an error occurs, it will automatically switch to slot B.
The camera also has the ability to record in SD, and includes special functions for high speed recording up to 300fps in 720×480 (250fps in PAL 720×576) and for interval recording from 1 to 80 seconds.
Still images are captured at 4000×3000 pixels.
Battery
JVC has added two battery holders to its new camera, which are also hot-swappable, so that uninterrupted recording can be ensured for hours.
Connections
It integrates a wide variety of input and output terminals to offer the maximum possible versatility. These include HDMI output, AV, 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB port, 3.5mm microphone input and a remote control connection.
It also has RCA video and audio outputs in case it is needed for monitoring or playback.
Other features
In addition to those already named above, the GY-HM70 also includes:
- Optical stabilizer
- Autofocus and focus assist
- 3″ LCD touch screen (230,000 pixels)
- 0.24″ LCOS color display (260,000 pixels)
- Internal stereo microphone
- Pushbutton for manual operation
This new camcorder is expected to be available in May 2013 for a price of $1,995. If you want more information here you can check its specifications.
