Harris Broadcasthas announced the second generation of its NEXIO Volt server, a compact, integrated platform with an increased channel count and enhanced storage, ingest and playout options.
It takes advantage of the latest technologies in processor, storage and connectivity, all in a 1 rack unit package, with low operating costs and high levels of resilience and reliability.
The available recording ports have been doubled, so it now offers four bi-directional HD channels, which become eight if they are SD, an exceptional density for ingest and playback operations.
One of its automatic functions allows to automatically generate low resolution images during ingest, which can be very beneficial for workflows with very heavy material. These low-resolution images could be viewed and edited using these images and then conformed. This feature can also be useful for bandwidth-efficient monitoring or data management environments, where the need to create these transcoded files afterwards would be eliminated.
Storage options have also been expanded, offering an integrated model with 8TB of internal storage. In addition, it includes direct connections to NEXIO Farad shared storage systems, via Gigabit Ethernet or optional Fibre Channel interfaces. NEXIO Volt is designed for use in a variety of digital media applications, allowing integration with servers, editors and other outputs.
Additional features include 3Gb/s capability, multi-language audio support and native playback of codecs such as MPEG-2, DV25/50/100, H.264, DNxHD and AVC-Intra.
This new Harris Broadcast server will be on public display at CABSAT 2013 (March 12-14 in Dubai) and NAB 2013 (April 8-11 in Las Vegas).
