HDR news at IBC 2019

At IBC 2019 HDR has been one of the very present topics and that’s why we want to show you the news that have been launched during the fair on HDR.

We start with the new products from AtomosAlthough it does not involve the presentation of a new monitor, it has presented an important firmware update for its Shogun 7 monitor. With this new firmware update, Atomos has managed to increase the brightness of the monitor up to 3000 nits. Canon recently announced its 2000 nits monitor and now it is Atomos who surprised at its booth with this great news. The firmware update will be instantaneous, but we will have to wait a few days to be able to play with Dolby Vision characteristic parameters. Atomos has also added enhancements for RAW capture from several mirrorless cameras to Atomos monitors, such as the Nikon Z6 and 7, the recently released Sony FX9 or the Panasonic Lumix S1H.

AJA has introduced together with Colorfront a 12G HDR image analyzer with high-bandwidth 12G-SDI output for real-time analysis and monitoring of 4K or UHD HDR images including PQ and HLG. It features waveform, histogram and vectorscope to analyze 4K, UHD, 2K, HD, HDR and WCG images at different stages of production, such as broadcast, OTT, post-production and quality control. It also features HDR monitor outputs with more accurate colors.

SmallHD for its part has launched new 4K HDR field monitors although they will not be available on the market until 2020. They will launch two lines of monitors, the Cine and Vision with three different sizes each of 13, 17 and 24 inches. The Vision line is presented as a 4K HDR reference grade field monitor with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and over 200 dimming zones. The Cinema line is presented as a line of high-field LED monitors with a maximum brightness of 2500 nits, ensuring reproduction of the DCI P3 color space.
