How to work with the SR codec in different editing systems

A few months ago we published this tutorial on importing material from Sony F5 and F55 cameras. Recently Sony has released firmware update 1.2, adding SR codec recording (in 422 or 444) on SxS cards.

That’s why today we bring you this new tutorial(originally published by AbelCine), which complements the previous one and will help you to use the codec with different editing systems.

For those of you unfamiliar with the codec, it is the same HD recording format that was found on HDCAM SR tapes, and has compression with no apparent visual loss.

Working with the SR codec requires a couple of additional software and plugins. If you want to know what they are you should visit red709, where you can find the complete tutorial in the “Written tutorials” section and the “Editing and postproduction” category (published by Elena Humanes).

And if you want to learn more about codecs, formats and workflows, or about Sony F5 and F55 cameras, we remind you that we have some courses that might interest you.
