Hyperdeck Update 3.8

This week Blackmagic Design released a software update for its HyperDeck Studio and HyperDeck Studio Pro recorders.

Version 3.8 supports the Ethernet protocol and adds a new menu system on the LCD screen in both models. For HyperDeck Studio Pro only, 6Gb/s SDI output has been enabled.

These two Blackmagic products allow recording and playback of compressed or uncompressed files using 2.5″ SSD disks. With two slots and the ability to automatically continue recording to the next disk (when one of them is full), it facilitates uninterrupted recording.

The basic differences between the two models lie in the possible recording functions and connection types. While HyperDeck Studio (priced at $995) records QuickTime files with or without compression, using ProRes 422 (HQ) or DNxHD MXF; HyperDeck Studio Pro ($1,995) is capable of recording SD 4:2:2, uncompressed HD or Ultra HD 4K in ProRes 422 (HQ). In addition, the latter features 6G-SDI, HDMI 4K, analog component connections, XLR for audio and integrated Thunderbolt connectivity.

The 3.8 software update can now be downloaded from this link, for both Windows (7 and 8) and Mac (10.7 and 10.8).
