Irixthe producer of cinema lenses, has just announced its new 15mm T2.6 lens. A wide-angle lens that joins the catalog of cinema lenses consisting of an 11mm wide-angle lens , the 45mm and the 150mm as a macro telephoto lens.
The wide angle lens is intended for cine and therefore for full frame cameras with the great advantage of being a cheaper and faster option. The lens is designed with 15 optical elements in 11 groups, including 3 HR (High Infrared), 2 low dispersion and 2 ASP lenses. As in their other models they have also managed to reduce chromatic aberration to the maximum ensuring true and vivid colors.
Despite being a wide-angle lens and running the risk of distorting the image, the Irix 15mm T2.6 keeps distortion and lens breathing to a minimum when focusing. The image is also sharp thanks to the 9 rounded blades that make up the diaphragm and its ability to eliminate diffraction regardless of the aperture used.
The maximum resolution at which it allows us to shoot, UltraHD 8K, is very important, being able to get super panoramic images in CinemaScope. It comes with different mount options for Canon EF, Sony E, MFT and PL.
The lens design is intended to be a lightweight yet compact, sealed and simple lens. It shares the ring design between the other optics to make changing accessories and focusing systems fit between optics and make the workflow faster and easier.
The same goes for the weight. It is very similar to the other optics to make it easier to change lenses even when mounted on stabilization systems. To speed up the change between attachments, a magnetic mounting system has been chosen.
It can now be ordered through the Irix website and is priced at $1,195.
