JVC has introduced its new 4KCAM lineup featuring three cameras with 4K Ultra HD recording capabilities that follow the goal of making these resolutions affordable.
All three models feature two SDHC/SDXC slots for backup, dual or continuous recording and include a 3.5-inch LCD screen and a 1.56-megapixel color viewfinder. They also have the “Smart focus assist” function and offer two channels for audio recording.
GY-LS300
It is the tallest of the three models, with a Super 35mm sensor combined with the standard MFT (Micro Four Thirds) mount. In addition, its Variable Scan Mapping technology maintains the native angle of view, making this camcorder compatible with a wide variety of lenses, such as PL or EF lenses.
It records to .MOV files at 24p or 30p in 4K UHD resolution and this signal can be monitored via the HDMI connection or converted to HD for output via HDMI or SDI. It is also possible to record up to 60p in Full HD 4:2:2 (50 Mbps) as a .MOV or in 4:2:0 if AVCHD.
Simultaneously to HD images, H.264 proxies can be captured in 480×270 and 960×540 resolutions.
The GY-LS300 will be released in March 2015 and will be priced at $4,450.
GY-HM200
Billed as the most versatile, this camera is the company’s most affordable camera with HD streaming and 4K UHD recording capabilities.
It features a 2/3″ CMOS sensor and a built-in 12x zoom lens (in 35mm would correspond to a 29.5mm – 354mm) with optical image stabilizer and a 24x dynamic zoom for HD mode.
It delivers 4K UHD, Full HD in 4:2:2 (at 50 Mbps) and SD, and can simultaneously stream to Ustream or other destinations while recording on SDHC/SDXC cards.
Both the previous model and this one include two XLR audio inputs that can be switched between mic/line and are phantom powered. It also has a handle with microphone mount and SDI and HDMI video outputs.
The GY-HM200 will be released in February 2015 and will be priced at $2,995.
GY-HM170
It is very similar to the HM200, but with a more compact body, reduced price and more limited functions.
Although it also records in 4K UHD, it records in H.264 files. It can also capture HD and SD images with different resolutions and frame rates.
It includes a 12x optical zoom with two ND filters, a stereo microphone, 3.5mm audio input and 4K UHD live output via HDMI.
The GY-HM170 will be released in February 2015 and will be priced at $2,495.
