Those of you who know me know that I have a particular respect and affection for everything that has to do with China (I am writing these lines while drinking hot coke with ginger to recover from a cold) so when I came across this camera I couldn’t help but write about it.
It is called Kineraw s35 and as the title says it is a Chinese copy of the famous Red One. In my opinion it has the potential to become an option to the Red inside and outside China: inside because the rent of the Red is very expensive because of the taxes it has to pay in the communist country and outside because its price will be (the camera is still in beta) of about $8000 (about 6000€).
Some of the camera’s features are: 2K resolution, S35mm sensor, CinemaDNG or Cineform Raw recording at 12b linear or 10b logarithmic respectively, PL lens mount (among others). You can see all the features here
Two other models called Kineraw s16 (with 16mm sensor size and 1080 resolution) and Kineraw s8 (not yet defined) have also been presented.
Whether or not it will become a real option will of course depend on the performance of the camera in real shooting, but it may be worth a try, here you can see a video on Vimeo presenting the camera.
