If last week we announced the new cameras from Sigma and Lumix, this time it’s Leica’s turn and unlike them, the new Leica camera comes with the DC Vario-Elmarit 9.1-146 f / 2.8-4 ASPH fixed lens. This is a very bright and versatile super zoom for those who want to take the camera with them on a trip or take both photos and videos and get pretty decent results without having to carry too much weight.
Inside it has a 1-inch CMOS sensor with 20 megapixels of resolution, enough to obtain high-resolution images. The ISO range is quite wide, from 125 to 12500 with the possibility of extension from 80 to 25600, although you will have to be careful with noise in the higher ranges.
Even though it is a still camera, it can record video in 4K 3840×2160 at 30 and 24 frames per second. For high definition video it allows us to record at 25, 30 and 60 frames per second. It also has several aspherical elements to avoid image aberrations.
As for the focus, the Leica V-Lux 5 incorporates the DFC (Depth From Defocus) autofocus system. A fast and precise system that allows you to focus on the elements in less than 0.1 second and thus “not miss the moment”. The focus options also include post-focusing, focus stacking and face recognition.
It has a 2.36-megapixel OLED viewfinder that enables the display of images with higher contrast and better color depth without consuming more battery power. In addition to the viewfinder, the camera also features a 3-inch, articulating rear touchscreen display.
It can be a good option for those who travel or those who want to take photos and videos without too many accessories. The price of the Leica V-Lux 5 will be 1.128€.
