Yesterday Red Giant released the new version of Magic Bullet PhotoLooks, a photo retouching software that allows you to work together with its companion Magic Bullet Looks 2 (in video).

New features include a reorganized interface, with a more uncluttered workspace, offering more possibilities to hide certain tools and menus. The basics of version 1 have been maintained, simplifying its use to create new looks.

When we want to retouch a photograph, we can start with one of the color treatments to apply a basic correction or to give it a more dramatic and cinematic tone. There are more than 100 presets that have been created based on commercial films.

For users who are more advanced and want to go deeper into their correction, they can use any of the included tools, which have also been improved in this update. PhotoLooks tools work by taking into account how light interacts with the camera, making adjustments accurate and look natural at the same time. In this aspect, we can find several new features, such as 3-Way Wheels, which separates into shadows, midtones and highlights.

The number of Scopes has also been increased; four have been added. Memory Colors is a histogram that compares skin colors with the appropriate fleshtones. For skin treatment, we also have Skin Overlay, which identifies shades that are not correct; and Cosmos, for smoothing.

In addition to the latter, tools for Hue/Saturation and Hue/Lightness have also been included.

In this system we can work with SD, HD, 2K and 4K material on standard hardware, but if we want to get a higher speed and performance we can also add a card such as NVIDIA or ATI. Only some of them are supported (you can check them out here).

System requirements

The company recommends working within the following technical specifications; however, there are some programs that may work with older or inferior programs.

– Mac OS X: 10.5.8; 10.6; 10.6.8; or 10.7.2; with Intel Mac.
– Windows: XP (32/64-bit); Vista (32/64-bit); 7(32/64-bit); Intel or AMD processor 1.6GHz or higher.

Both require 2GB of RAM and 15GB of hard disk space.

Supported systems

When working with PhotoLooks we can do it in two ways, using it as a standalone application or through the following software:

Adobe Photoshop: CS6, CS5.5; CS5; CS4.
Adobe Lightroom: 4; 3.
Aperture: 3.

PhotoLooks is able to support Photoshop CS6 video timeline.

Magic Bullet PhotoLooks 2 is now available for $199. For those who were already Magic Bullet Suite 11 users, this is a free upgrade; and for those who had PhotoLooks version 1.5, you can renew it for $49.

From here you can purchase it or download the trial.
