MIST encodes JPEG2000 in real time

Very recently, Marquise Technologies announced new features for its MIST system, including the new DCI encoding tool within it. Thanks to this tool, we could import our files into MIST and perform all the steps for the creation of a DCP, controlling all the processes from the timeline. However, we could only get real times for this if the imported files were already in JPEG2000 (the format in which our images have to be in order to make a DCP), since their encoding is a very slow process.

Now, Marquise Technologies and Barco Silex, experts in encoding and decoding solutions in this format (in addition to other technological developments), have teamed up to enable JPEG2000 files to be encoded in real time.

Thanks to MIST’s new DCI mastering features and Barco’s DCPB-2100 accelerator board (capable of processing 48fps in 2K), we have the ability to encode for DCP and then playback in 2K and 4K resolutions in real time, making MIST a very useful and fast system.
