GenArts has developed a new version of Monsters GT (version 7), a visual effects suite designed to complement Sapphire (also from GenArts).
The complete pack includes 55 very different effect plug-ins, from particle-based effects, based on natural phenomena (such as water, fire or smoke), to simply aesthetic effects.
Now, with this new version, all the effects are sorted into subsets according to their subject matter, making it easier for users to find each of them.
These are the five new effects it brings:
– Roman Tile: consists of a mosaic of hexagons or squares formed from a part of the image. It is quite simple and can hardly be modified; the only adjustments that can be made are the position from which to start and the number of segments.
– Water: simulates waves moving on the water surface. To achieve this effect, any shape of the image can be used as pressure on the surface.
In the following video the effect is not very visible, but if you go to this page you can see examples of each of the available plug-ins.
– Startfield: creates a 3D star field. Although quite simple, it can be animated to achieve variations in the speed or shape and movements of the whole.
– Candle: generates a “fluttering” effect on the flame. This is one of the effects that gives the most options when it comes to modifying its values, with changes in size, positions, etc.
Here you have a video as an example to which, in addition, the Smoke effect has been added.
– Sky: is the last of the effects that have been added to the suite and is quite more complete than the previous ones. It has many settings and modifiable controls with which you can create multiple versions of skies with different speeds and colors, as you can see in the following video:
In addition to these five new ones, there are seven other effects that have been improved to make them more realistic and have better quality, such as Bubbles, Particles, Rain, Smoke and others.
Another factor that has been improved in this new version is the possibility of working with compositions and alpha channel.
Monsters GT v7 is available for:
– Smoke ( for Mac 2010)
– Burn, Flame, Flare, Flint, Inferno, Smoke (2007 or higher): for Linux.
– Nuke 6.x, or higher: Mac, Linux or Windows.
– Fusion: Linux or Windows.
– Scratch (5.2 or higher): Mac or Windows.
– After Effects (CS4 and above): Mac or Windows.
– Sony Vegas Pro (from 10.0): Windows.
The pack with all 55 effects costs $499, but there is also a “Theme Pack” that includes 19 effects for $299 and a “Mini-Pack” (2 to 5 effects) for $99.
