MTI Film will present Cortex Convey

During the upcoming and highly anticipated NAB 2012, MTI Film will introduce its new Cortex family of products for digital file management both on set and in post. The first product in this series is Cortex Convey, a system that has been developed based on the previous Control Dailies (also from MTI Film) and was already positively received last month at the HPA Technical Retreat.

The main objective of Cortex Convey is to make the encoding of digital files a simple process available to all users who want it, without the need to be an expert in codecs and formats, focusing, first of all, on a very simple interface.

This system arose due to the rapid change that has occurred in recent years from the analog to the digital world, and because of this the way of performing postproduction has also changed. Now practically all the processes are digital, and what it entails are constant changes of formats to be able to adapt to the “correct” way of working in each situation. For this reason Cortex Convey has been created to be able to work in each of the phases of a production; from the decoding of native camera codecs (such as Canon C300, ARRI Alexa or Sony F65); creation of DVDs for the review of dailies; or encoding of the material for other postproduction processes, for example color correction, as well as for the final delivery.

One of the most important improvements is its new completely redesigned database. New features have been incorporated to extend the schema with existing metadata and to allow import and export from the different Cortex systems, as well as from third parties (we do not yet know which ones).

In order to be able to adapt to all new developments, the hardware requirements and the installation process are much simpler than before. In addition, multiple templates are included in each project, automated workflows and a render engine to generate several conversions at the same time.

In addition to Cortex Convey, other products such as Cortex Capture, Cortex Control Dailies and Remote Control Dailies (tools closely linked to Cortex Convey) will also be presented at NAB, as well as the already proven Correct DRS (for image restoration). At the moment this is all we know about these systems, for more information we will have to wait until April.
