New Atomos Shogun 7 update includes RAW recording on the Sony PXW-FX9.

Atomos releases new free HDR monitor-recorder-switcher update V10.42 Shogun 7HDR monitor-recorder-switcher, which for those who own the Sony PXW-FX9The new update has a great advantage, and from now on it will be able to record in RAW thanks to this update.

In order to obtain a 16-bit RAW signal from the Sony PXW-FX9 via SDI, it is necessary to have the XDCA-FX9 extension unit and the shogun 7 monitor updated to this new version. We will be able to record DCI 4K images at 60 fps or in 2K at 180fps. This provides more creative opportunities by being able to perform slow motion from camera with “flawless images” with great detail and high latitude. These capabilities are necessary for the post-production side, where we will have a greater margin to work with HDR and SDR images.

Sony FX9 provides metadata in the RAW files that are incorporated in the ProRes RAW output through Shogun 7 and the XDCA-FX9. When these RAW files with metadata are imported into non-linear editing programs, they automatically recognize that they are ProRes RAW files and from there you can work in HDR or SDR as you choose.

To this, we must add the advantage of the ProRes RAW file itself: saving and obtaining all the information from the files, with the lightness of ProRes so that the processes are not heavy and the work is lighter and faster.

It is important that once the firmware update is done, while in ProRes RAW mode, you enter the activation code when the pop up appears for it to be effective, otherwise it will default to ProRes HQ when you connect a RAW source. See atomos.com/activation for instructions on how to generate a new code.
