CCTECH launches its new external battery proposal to solve the short life of Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K and 6K cameras. Although there are many solutions and options for external batteries, CCTECH presents a less usual option compared to the rest of the market.
Unlike most other external batteries, the CCTECH mounts to the tripod base plate. The battery is anchored to the tripod and the camera is anchored to the battery. It may seem more awkward or less practical, but from the brand they defend the capacity of the CCTECH batteries. The battery has a power of 6800 mAh, which is the equivalent of 6 Panasonic NCR18650B batteries together or just over 5 Canon LP-E6 batteries.
In this way, we get 10.8V by connecting only one power supply to the camera. More importantly, being a small battery with 73.4 watts, it is suitable for safe transportation by plane. In fact it has an extra protection to avoid overcharging, over discharging, it also protects against short circuits, overvoltage and overcurrent.
It connects to the Blackmagic Pocket via a single cable to the 12 volt input. The cable, which comes with the battery, measures 35cm, just enough to connect both devices without having many cables in between. To avoid tugging and disconnection of the camera it comes with a double security system: the end that connects to the camera body has a self-locking plug while the other end has a nut to lock the disconnection.
The battery is made of aerospace aluminum, sealed and waterproof and comes with different hole sizes such as 3/8″ or 1/4-20″. An indicator light is placed on the front to monitor the available battery. Estimated full charge time of the CCTECH battery is approximately 3 to 4 hours and includes a 12.6 /2A charger.
You can purchase the CCTECH backplane battery through various distributors at a cost of $116.99.
