Colorfront launches a new type of subscription called Express dailies and is intended for users of the new Mac Pro. This new subscription allows the rental of Express Dailies for a whole year. The fact that it has been allied with the new Mac Pro is directly related to the new HDR workflows on set. For owners of the new Pro Display XDRtogether with the Colorfront subscription, it becomes a good tandem for HDR monitoring.
There are many options for working with HDR in post-production, but it is true that on-set work is still an unexplored area and this is where Colorfront wants to set its sights. For DIT work, color grading, transcoding and signal control require very powerful machines, and now that HDR comes into play, not just any machine or monitor will do. Each DIT operates with different software, and that is why Colorfront offers the Express Dailies option as a“powerful and simple mobile” alternative.
For the creators of Colorfront, being able to count on the power of the 28 cores of the Mac Pro, the 2 graphics cards and the SDI output to the new monitor, is an opportunity to offer a powerful post-production station with which to reproduce 4K material in real time. It is also capable of processing RAW files from ARRI, Sony, RED, etc… cameras.
Of course, it is intended for on-set color correction and the creation of LUTs. With the video outputs included in the new Mac Pro, we can monitor LUTs through the BMD HDLink Pro, for example.
Being aware that the Mac Pro is not affordable for everyone, Colorfront presents this subscription as a more economical alternative for those who work with the brand, especially for 6K HDR and SDR workflows.
