New DSLR Nikon D810

Nikon has expanded its DSLR lineup with the introduction of the new D810 D810a camera that improves upon its D800 and D800E predecessors.

It features a 36-megapixel (7360×4912) full-frame sensor that eliminates the low-pass filter to increase effective image resolution. Its new image processing technology has been designed to reduce moiré and other artifacts, also increasing noise reduction and extending the camera’s ISO range from 64 to 12,800.

Although Nikon has not entered the video market as strongly as other companies, the D810 comes with some interesting features for 1080p recording. Chief among them is the 60p recording mode, which includes the ability to output 60p uncompressed to an external recorder via HDMI while recording to internal memory cards.

Exposure-smoothing, for time-lapse recording, live-view zebra display, and an integrated stereo microphone (as well as input for the same) have also been added.

Possibly one of its biggest drawbacks is that it does not offer 4K, unlike other cameras such as the Canon EOS-1D C, Panasonic GH4 or Sony A7S. For this reason, the direct competitor of this camera will be the 5D Mark III, which also records in HD resolution.

Here is a promotional video from Nikon showing the capabilities of the D810:
