Convergent Design has released a firmware update for its Odyssey 7/7Q/7Q+ and Apollo recorders.
This v2016.10 release comes with the optional Titan HD Extract upgrade, which allows the 4K camera output to be sampled in three HD images to generate multiple angles, e.g. for live performance or interview recording. Titan HD Extract also allows all four outputs to be recorded with the same file names and timecodes.
VariCam LT users are sure to be a little happier after this update, as RAW output capability has been added to the Odyssey 7Q and 7Q+ models. In addition to the Panasonic, ARRIRAW 4:3 support has also been updated and RAW pass-through from Sony FS and Canon to ProRes has been improved.
Specifically for the Apollo recorder, support for EDLs (CMX3600) in live-switched and 1080p 50/60fps live-switched modes is included.
Other new features of the firmware include the addition of the ProRes Proxy codec (4:2:2), Canon CLog3 LUTs, revised LUTs for Sony FS5 and FS, System Log file recording to the SSD and 8-channel selection via the headphone output.
The optional Titan HD Extract upgrade is priced at $1,295 (although until November 6 there is a special price of $995). It is also possible to rent it by the day.
The RAW option for the Panasonic VariCam LTs is priced at $995, although the company has indicated that this feature will allow them to have all future RAW support at no additional charge.
