Convergent Design has released firmware update v2016.06 for its Apollo, Odyssey 7Q+, Odyssey 7Q and Odyssey 7 recorder-monitors.
The new firmware brings multiple added features for Apollo, including:
- Simultaneous recording on two SSD drives.
- Apollo A/V Allign, for mixing cameras with different latency while keeping audio and video synchronous.
- 3:2 pulldown removal capability, for mixing 24p files recorded in interlaced and progressive formats.
- There are three dissolves available in live change or for cuts.
- Up to 8 audio tracks per SDI channel (this feature has also been added to all Odyssey models).
In the case of the Odyssey line, the main novelties are:
- RAW recording support for Sony FS5 in CinemaDNG or ProRes up to 4K 60p.
- RAW recording support in CinemaDNG, 4K 60p, for IO Flare cameras.
- Dual HD recording, which requires two SSDs.
In addition, Convergent Design lists in its press release more than 20 fixes and fixes to its products, among which worth noting are improved debayering algorithms for Sony FS7 RAW, ProRes frame rate issues with Canon RAW, faster boot time, and correction of file corruption and artifact issues.
This upgrade to firmware version v2016.06 is completely free and can be downloaded from the Convergent Design website. The company recently lowered the price of the Odyssey 7Q to $1,795 and the Apollo to $2,995, while the package for the Odyssey RAW options remains at $998.
