Convergent Design has just released its v3.10.100 firmware update, designed for the Odyssey 7 and 7Q recorders with new features, enhanced functions and fixes for certain bugs.
ProRes in 4K
Undoubtedly the biggest new feature is the ability to record Apple ProRes 4K on the Odyssey 7Q model.
This means that, using the two 512GB SSD cards, we will be able to capture up to 194 minutes of footage, more than three times the existing capacity with 4K RAW.
Possible resolutions and speeds are 4K (4096 x 2160) and UHD (3840 x 2160) at 23.98, 25 and 29.97 fps; or 2K (2048 x 1080) at 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 50 and 59.94 fps.
A recording mode will soon be added, at no additional cost, that will take the 4K RAW signal from cameras such as Canon C500 and Sony FS700 and convert it to ProRes 422 HQ while maintaining 4K.
Marks in reproduction
Now, within playback mode, up to 16 In and Out points can be marked for each clip. Then, using the new Apple ProRes Transfer Utility 1.4.4 CD software, we can bring these marks into Final Cut Pro (X and 7), Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve (10 and 11).
Other new functions
- Start and stop recording with trigger on cameras that support it via HDMI, e.g. Sony FS700, Sony a7S, Canon C100, 1DC, 5D, etc.
- Revamped user interface with simplified menus and intuitive access to all functions.
- Selectable project speed for Apple ProRes recordings in 1080p, from 23.98 to 60fps.
- Timecode input on cameras that support it via HDMI, such as Sony FS700, FS100, a7S or Canon C100, 1DC or 5D.
- Analog audio recording input through the 3.5mm AUD IN port. Two unbalanced channels or one balanced channel input with gain adjustment from -99 to +44dB.
- Possibility to mute the headphones on the AUD OUT port.
