Sound Devices has updated its PIX 260i recorder to version 1.02 and offers enhanced options for recording and file transfer.
This model features a rack mount and is based on its predecessors PIX 220i and PIX 240i. It offers video and audio recording and playback (32 tracks), as well as remote control functionality from computers and tablets.
Thanks to its recording in post-production codecs (QuickTime files in ProRes or DNxHD) it eliminates transcoding time and facilitates the transition to common editing systems such as Avid, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. In addition, for more demanding productions it allows recording in Apple ProRes 4444 through its 3G-SDI I/O and it is possible to output the files for use with realtime applications (such as those explained and learned in the DIT Course).
With this 1.02 update come new capabilities, such as simultaneous recording to multiple discs or the use of a sequential mode, which switches from one disc to the next when the drives are full. For the audio mode only, a memory of 10 seconds maximum has been added for the “pre-record”.
Transfer options have also been improved. All recording drives are now formatted in exFAT( read more about this formathere ), although it will still be possible to record and playback from UDF discs, thus ensuring compatibility with other Sound Devices recorders.
Each disk can be independently configured to Ethernet File Transfer mode, providing the ability to transfer files over the network while the recorder continues to record new data. Once full, the discs are automatically switched to this mode and, in addition, the new firmware allows data to be read and written via Ethernet.
Version 1.02 is available as a free download from this link and will be shown shortly at Cine Gear 2013 in Los Angeles. Full details about the update can be found on this page.
