New firmware for VariCam

Panasonic has just released a free firmware update for its VariCam 35 4K and Varicam HS cameras, whose main new features expand the recording options and possibilities once they reach the post-production process.

Thanks to the new Codex V-RAW recorder, 4K RAW capture up to 120fps is now possible on the VariCam 35. In addition, this recorder has the advantage of being connected directly to the camera, so there is no need for cabling.

Also unique to the VariCam 35 is support for 1.33:1 and 2.0:1 anamorphic lenses, which is enhanced by the simultaneous recording of warped and unwarped images (in the main and sub recorders), as well as possible warp-free monitoring in both the viewfinder and video outputs.

Finally, the Apple ProRes 4444 codec is available on both models, but only for HD recordings.

You can now download firmware version 4.0 through this link.
