New Firmware for Z CAM E2 with ProRes HQ Recording

Z CAM E2 now has a new firmware version, V 0.98.0, which enables ProRes HQ recording in all recording options, regardless of resolution and frame rate, except for 8K 2.4:1.

As a reminder, the Z CAM E2 is a type of action camera, as revealed during the filming of Mission Impossible 7 where these cameras were used for action sequences. The great advantage of this type of camera is its extremely compact size for 4K cameras with interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lenses. In fact, it is currently the smallest in the world for this type of camera.

The fact that now one of the most versatile Micro Four Thirds cameras allows ProRes HQ recording opens up a new world of possibilities and increases workflow options for each production. This update is valid for all Z CAM E2 camera models.

It not only allows ProRes HQ recording in all available camera resolutions (except 8K 2.4:1), but also allows us to record separate ProRes proxy files for lighter and faster workflows, for dailies, etc…

While these are the main new features of the firmware update, version 0.98.0 has also served to fix some bugs and add improvements to the cameras’ performance, fixing the issue with clip preview on camera when applying a 3D LUT. Improvements have also been made for external SSD recording, making USB performance more productive.

In addition to ProRes HQ recording, a new recording resolution of 5K has been added with a frame rate of up to 60 fps. This option is available for the Z CAM E2-F6 model.

The update is free and is already available for download through this link.
