Atomos has just released AtomOS firmware version 6.4, a free update for its Shogun 4K recorder/monitor.
Based on some commentary, it appears that Atomos and Convergent Design, developers of the Odyssey 7Q and its direct competition, are in a “war” where one’s updates are in response to the other’s. During NAB 2015, Atomos brought out the ability to record in DCI 4K, 4K RAW to ProRes/DNxHD and introduced LUTs. Next, Convergent Design made its recorders feature more advanced LUTs, de-anamorphization and 4K recording options in ProRes/DNxHD for the FS7 and FS700 cameras.
We now have a response from AtomOS with the following new features for Shogun:
- 4K DCI RAW recording in ProRes or DNxHD with the FS700 and FS7. The RAW signal can be converted to Slog2, Slog3 or Rec709 and supports 24, 25 or 30p.
- Defocusing for 2x, 1.5x, 1.33x and Panasonic 8:3 modes.
- Pre-roll recording (cache up to 8 seconds in HD and 2 seconds in 4K).
- Custom timelapse recording.
- Possibility to apply LUTs on output, recording, on screen or split screen.
- Generation of a playlist with all clips on the disc, user-selected clips, favorite clips or a combination of both.
- Extended metadata tagging during recording or playback. Available tags (Wide shot, Close up, Talent 1 or 2, Over Exposed, Bad Audio, Color Correction or Cut Away) allow keyword search in FCP X (via XML FCPX 1.4).
- Genlock enabled for synchronized playback.
