New Fran 8K camera available

FRAN 8K

The new FRAN 8K camera has recently been released and is loaded with interesting features such as:

4: 4: 4: 4 raw
No color subsampling. Pure RAW with 15.5 stops of dynamic range. Uncompressed Bayer RAW (1: 1) raw at 44 MB / file (up to 8K) and compressed Debayerized (2: 1) up to 4K.

23x over Full HD, same quality
Full HD, the standard in televisions, measures 1920 x 1080 (2,073,600). Fran 8K offers 7920 x 6024 pixels for a total of 47,710,080 pixels (47.7 MP), or in other words, 23 times more resolution than Full HD.

Dual ISO

Dual ISO to extend HDR. Use dual exposure, to take image at the same instant at 2 different ISOs, to create a raw file with higher dynamic range.

Global shutter
The global shutter delivers an instantaneous frame readout. This means that the images are captured at the same time at the same time, unlike the rolling shutter where the sensor reads back and forth with some delay.

Depth of Field
Great DOF is generally achieved with a full frame sensor, using appropriate lenses, scene and distance. The Fran sensor is larger than a FF or VV, so it is easy to achieve incredible organic DOF.

Larger than VV
Fran’s sensor is larger than VistaVision, having an area of 1.456 inches by 1.062 inches (999 mm2 – 37 x 27 mm). VistaVision’s aperture is 1.485 inches (37.72 mm) by 0.981 inches (24.92 mm). EF or PL mount.

Vignetting
Depending on the lens coverage, an organic vignetting effect (not emulated) is obtained using super35mm lenses. For full coverage, full frame lenses should be used.

Internal downsampling
Fran has variable resolutions (8k, 4k, 2k) that does NOT clip the sensor; for example, 8k at 14mm is 14mm at 4k as well. No cropping Internal downsampling is available for some resolutions.

HDMI 2.0 4K60P
Use to connect an external monitor, viewfinder or monitor and recorder. The output is cleaned up to 4K60P depending on the resolution of the external device, it adapts.

3 buttons. Easy GUIDE
Dedicated center button for instant recording. Two directional buttons, and hold down the center button to access the menu and configure/set up the camera, whose status can be save/load to/from SD. For users who want side buttons, a side controller interface will be developed in 2019.
