New from Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve at IBC

After the incredible new features in Nab Blackmagic has decided to continue its evolution of DaVinci Resolve with version 8.1. Some of the new features announced are: support for Windows OS (from 2012) usable with the same license as Mac, improved AAF metadata compatibility with Avid Media Composer, improved EDL support and integration with FCP 7, new effects and blending modes, integration with Blackmagic’ s new Thunderbolt cards and support for the 15″ MacBook Pro. In addition, by purchasing the DaVinci Resolve Control Surface controller, Blackmagic is giving away a free Linux software license for a savings of US$20000.

In addition to DaVinci Resolve Blackmagic has introduced new monitors, cards, converters…You can see the official press releases here.

It seems that Blackmagic has decided to take over the color correction market by lowering prices. At the moment this would give them the rank of Apple Color users, recently discontinued, and it seems that they also want to launch with this same philosophy towards Windows and Linux. Let’s hope that the case of Apple and Shake or Color is not repeated; a large hardware manufacturer discontinues its software for reasons unrelated to its users or to the requirements of the industry.
