Canon is launching these days and has announced its new HDR monitor for November. HDR monitor monitor with official Dolby Vision certification.
Canon engineering specialist Nate Mc Farlin says the new canon DPV-3120 4K HDR monitor exceeds the technical specifications required by Dolby Vision.
The new reference monitor will be a very good choice for HDR colorists thanks to Canon’s new features. The screen is 31 inches with maximum luminance levels of 2000 nits. Within this range of 4K monitors, most achieved a maximum luminance of 1000 nits, with the arrival of the new Canon monitor, we will get optimal brightness levels for working in HDR.
The monitor, which consists of an LCD panel, integrates the latest backlight system developed by Canon. The base of the monitor is composed of a layer of white LEDs, but thanks to the new system designed by Canon covers up to 5 times more backlight areas. In terms of black levels, it almost achieves pure zero, but stays at 001 nits, which is not bad for a non-OLED.
On the monitor itself we can observe the waveform, vectorscope and histogram graphs. It allows real-time comparison of HDR and SDR monitoring through a split screen and a very useful feature such as pixel level verification.
Connections include one HDMI 2.0 port and four 12G-SDI outputs and four 12G-SDI inputs. Remote control of the monitor can be done via LAN connection and web browser.
The price of the new monitor will be $39,000. Don’t miss the news about the new EOS C500 MK II, another of Canon’s great new products.
