New HP Z1 workstation

Innovation has great rewards, like boosting your sales and your pride… and Apple knows both. But it also has its downsides – the competition will come out with your same product…improved.

The Imacs were a great idea (the first ones were on tube TV) but in the professional world they have always had a great limitation: complicated expansion, not impossible, but more complicated than a normal desktop.

In that line HP has just presented in Las Vegas its workstation Z1. Its novelty in the brand is not that it is all in one monitor as the Imac, HP already had models like this, but now it is expandable using up to 5 PCIs without using tools for assembly (in the purest MacPro style).

This small detail together with a 2K display with billions of colors (we will have to see how exactly the bit depth of the monitor works because HP does not make it clear), Nvidia Quadro cards, quad-core Xeon processors, up to 32 GB of RAM and Blue-Ray recorder make the Z1 an excellent choice for that range of professionals who want a post-pro computer but do not need (neither for features nor for price) a Z800.

One more step in the technological path that unites laptop, desktop and post-production. It will be available in April 2012 with a price starting at $1900.
