Apple has already announced the new model of iPhone 12 with new specifications for high quality images and videos, including HDR Dolby Vision. We review the main new features in terms of image and video of the new iPhone models.
We start with the new A14 Bionic chip, with the ability to process trillions of operations in the Neural Engine and A14 Bionic image processor that allow users to generate images that result in the combination of RAW-formatted photographs and Apple’s multi-frame processing, such as Apple ProRAW. This computational photography system allows users to have greater image control in image processing. We can access color retouching, dynamic range or other image adjustments even with other compatible applications.
Apple has opted for Dolby Vision technology for their HDR support in the iPhone 12. They have incorporated an ultra-fast chip that allows 4K video recording with Dolby Vision at up to 30 fps. It allows recording in Dolby Vision frame by frame and is processed live on the fly. Recording at 10-bit and with 700 million colors to give more realism to the images. It also uses a Super Retina XDR display that takes care of the contrast in capture and playback. It features an OLED display, “the best iPhone display to date” that allows for higher contrast, brighter whites and denser blacks.
With intelligent HDR 3, it highlights image details, textures, colors and characters, and with intelligent learning, it is also able to recognize beyond faces and is able to recognize scenes to retouch sharpness or white balance.
These HDR videos can be edited directly on the phone via mobile apps like Photos, iMovie, etc…. And to take the HDR experience from end to end, it has support for AirPlay and “set up a home theater session with your TV”.
For the capture it has a dual camera system with an ultra wide-angle and a telephoto lens. The new wide-angle is brighter, allowing 27% more light to pass through so that night photos are also of quality. This varies depending on the model we have. In the case of the iPhone 12 Pro, we have this Ultra Wide, but for the Pro Max model, the wide-angle achieves up to 87% improvement, according to Apple. Both share an aperture of f 1.6. The telephoto lens also varies depending on the iPhone model and comprise focal lengths of 52mm and 65mm for iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max respectively.
The iPhone 12 can boast the largest coverage in the world with the 5G connection. A remarkable advantage when downloading content away from home, working with data or Face Timeconnections in HD.
