With the arrival of 5G, the government has had to push for a new National Technical Plan for DTT. The 5G technology will occupy the 700 MHz band, currently used for Digital Terrestrial Television signals.
The European Union established June 30, 2010 as the deadline for releasing the second digital dividend. Telecommunications companies will be able to start installing 5G networks in one year. Until then, the re-antenization of some buildings will involve the readjustment of DTT signal reception equipment. To help neighbors affected by these modifications to their antennas, the Government has approved a Royal Decree with aid to cover the costs. 150 million euros, equivalent to 104 and 678 euros per community to reduce the impact.
The release of the 700 MHz band will mean that the radio channels currently used by television will be replaced by new channels between 470-694 MHz of the band. This change only affects communities, exempting individual homes. Together with the new National Technical Plan for DTT, the government will make available to residents the new rules and steps to follow to change channels. Since from 2023 the television broadcasting will be in high definition and ultra high definition.
According to Isabel Celaá, acting government spokesperson, these changes will improve communication, reduce the digital divide and provide greater coverage to the most isolated areas in rural environments, and of course, a larger and more powerful information network thanks to 5G.
