Convergent Design has introduced its new Odyssey7Q+ recorder, featuring an OLED monitor and the ability to accept 4K, UHD and 1080p60 footage.
The company has said that this model will replace the previous model, the Odyssey7Q, which will no longer be manufactured or sold, although support will continue to be offered.
The 7Q was launched in November 2013 and has been one of the most widely used recorders due to its ability to record ARRIRAW or files from Sony FS700 or Canon C500 cameras. It is also the only one that allows you to buy or rent these capture options by the day.
The core features will remain intact, but the 7Q+ adds an HDMI 1.4b input that allows for these frame rate and resolution variations, making it possible to capture in 4K, UHD and 1080p over HDMI in various codecs, including ProRes 422 HQ.
You may be wondering what happens to those who already own a 7Q model. Well, Convergent Design is offering a “loyalty program” to those who purchase the 7Q+ before March 31, 2015. This program includes an extra year’s warranty for the 7Q, duplication of any recording options purchased for the 7Q+ at no additional cost, warranty extensions, and other existing offers on the company’s website. They have also said that both models can be sold to a third party with the purchased options intact.
The new Odyssey7Q+ will be priced at $2,295 and is scheduled to be available from the 19th of this month.
In addition, the 1TB Odyssey SSD has also started to be sold for $1,395, which is an alternative to the 256GB and 512GB recording discs. This will store up to 2.5 hours of ProRes in 4K or 11 hours of ProRes 1080p. This size will be enabled with the next firmware update (for the 7, 7Q and 7Q+), which is scheduled in conjunction with the release of the 7Q+.
