After the official presentation of the Lumix GH5 comes the FZ80, also from Panasonic.
As soon as we see the headlines announcing this camera there is already something that catches our attention, 4K for less than $400; but let’s dig a little deeper into the details.
The new FZ80 is actually an upgrade of the FZ70 camera, and thus features the same 60x DC VARIO superzoom, capable of going from 20mm to 1200mm, with a maximum aperture range of f/2.8-5.9.
One of the differences with its predecessor is in the sensor, as it is now a high-sensitivity MOS, with 18.1 megapixels and 1/2.3 inches.
It is capable of capturing video in 4K at 30p at a rate of 100Mbps, or Full HD up to 60p. In addition, it includes several burst modes for capturing 8 megapixel JPEG images. Lowering the resolution even further allows higher speeds, such as 120p at 1280 x 720 or 240p at 640 x 480.
Files are recorded on SD/SDHC/SDXC cards.
It has a feature called “4K Live Cropping” that allows panning and zooming from the 4K frame for HD output, and is intended primarily for broadcast environments.
Another advantage, even more so considering its capabilities, is its weight and size, which is reduced to 130.2 x 94.3 x 119.2 and 616 grams. It has a 3-inch rear LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 1.04 million dots and a 1.17 million dot display.
These are the rest of the outstanding qualities:
- POWER O.I.S integrated: optical image stabilization system.
- Electronic shutter that varies between 1s and 1/16.000s.
- Mechanical shutter.
- High-speed AF (autofocus) (0.09 seconds).
- ISO 80-6400.
- Post Focus” function for setting focus points after capture.
- Time-lapse and burst shooting modes at 10p (AFS) and 6p (AFC).
- Wi-Fi
Like its GH5 companion, the release date is scheduled for March.
