New Phantom Flex4K-GS

This week Vision Research has given us the news of the addition of global shutter in its high-speed Phantom Flex4K camera, which becomes a new model called Phantom Flex4K-GS.

The global shutter is combined with a 4K, 35mm sensor (9.4 megapixels) to capture images with high detail at speeds ranging from 15fps to 1000fps. This would be if we talk about 4K, because if we lower the resolution to 2K we can reach up to 2000fps.

This type of shutter ensures, unlike the rolling shutter, that every pixel in every frame is exposed to light at exactly the same moment, eliminating artifacting problems that arise especially with fast moving objects. This is not to say that rolling shutter is not beneficial, as for example it tends to have a lower noise level and more dynamic range. For this reason, what Vision Research has done is to allow switching between one mode and the other in the new Phantom Flex4K-GS.

The camera will be released with 64 or 128GB of RAM and works with CineMag IV storage units, being able to save either uncompressed raw material or ProRes 422 HQ.

We do not yet know the details of its price, but considering that the Flex4K was around $100,000, we can get an idea of how much the new one will cost.
