New release of Avid Media Composer 5.5

It seems that Avid have decided to get their act together and are constantly releasing new features. This new version of MC (still only advertised) promises some improvements: native support for HDCAM SR lite and a phonetic text search engine for the material (I am interested to see how it works in Spanish, since the sync script works great… in English).

They also continue their openness to third party hardware and now fully support (capture/flipping, monitoring and remote) the Aja I/O Express. Which I gather will allow to use Aja codecs on the MC (which can be very handy for something I want to try, I’ll let you know).

Anyway if this version solves some of the stability problems that 5 has I am more than satisfied, I hope we can talk about it when Avid releases it. In the meantime here is the link to see what’s new.
