Qualcomm’ s new 5G-capable Snapdragon 855 Snapdragon 8 55 appears to be taking mobile processing to new heights.
Its Snapdragon systems have become the brains of all Android phones, so when it upgrades the technology, you can bet that the next set of flagship smartphone releases will run from this core. It simply revealed the specs behind the Snapdragon 855, a successor to the 845 found in last year’s most sophisticated Android smartphones, including Samsung S9 and S9+. However, the 855 is designed to take full advantage of 5G, the enhanced wireless broadband network that Verizon is happily launching.
Already, Samsung’s One Plus 7 and S10 will include the chip.
Your capabilities
Connectivity: 5G will unleash multi-gigabit two-way connectivity from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps and eventually beyond opening up so-called next-generation immersive experiences, including multiplayer virtual reality gaming, augmented reality shopping and real-time video collaboration. The 855 has a built-in 4G LTE modem capable of connecting at speeds up to 2 Gbps, which is far more than most people need. Users can expect average performance up to twenty times faster compared to the best of today’s best solutions.
Performance: power is everything, but even the 855 claiming 45% more performance and efficiency than the 845 is a serious improvement. There’s also a faster graphics engine (the Adreno 640 GPU) that will give mobile gamers exciting new levels of realism.
