New software update for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera

Blackmagic Design has announced software update 1.2 for its Blackmagic Cinema Camera, which includes a new recording mode and features to assist and give more flexibility to the user.

The new features are as follows:

Time-lapse recording

This recording mode will allow Blackmagic Cinema Camera users to create stunning CinemaDNG RAW video at 2.5K resolution, with a choice of codec between Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD. There is a very wide selection of frame rates, ranging from one frame per second to one frame every 10 minutes.

Opening indicator

Thanks to this update and the use of compatible EF lenses, it is now possible to get an aperture indicator in the status bar and SDI output of “overlay”, which will allow checking the F-stop setting via the LCD display.

ExFAT formatting

Support for formatting SSD cards in ExFAT provides great flexibility for Blackmagic camera users. They will now be able to use either HFS+ or ExFAT formats, a state-of-the-art file system compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X, allowing cards to be inserted on both platforms without the need for third-party software.

If we insert an ExFAT formatted card into the camera, the camera will automatically recognize it instantly and it will be ready to record.

Intel Certification

Finally, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera has been certified by Intel for hardware (Windows-based) capture and playback using Thunderbolt technology. This will allow users to use the camera in conjunction with a wide range of products such as Blackmagic Design’s UltraScope and Media Express.
