Sony has just announced its latest addition to the Cyber Shot RX family of 1″ CMOS sensor cameras, the RX100 VI.
Sony Compact RX 100 MK V
Sony’s new camera, Sony Compact RX 100 MK V, follows the popular RX100 V in identical size and shape, but with significant features for both video and stills. While retaining the 1: 20.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, the RX100 VI sees significant speed improvements in autofocus capabilities and speed. With some 315 phase-detection AF points covering 65% of the sensor and an AF response time of 0.03 seconds, the camera is well suited for following actions in still and video modes. The enhanced eye AF function interpolates eye movement and maintains AF even when the subject looks away from the camera. In still mode, continuous shooting up to 24 fps is now possible. The RX100 VI has a fixed Zeiss lens with a focal range of 24-200mm at f/2.8-4.5.
The menu structure is identical to the Sony RX and Alpha series cameras with a shortcut function button and full menus. The function button on Sony cameras is particularly useful for quick access to functions such as shooting mode, AF mode, image profile and metering mode, among others. In still image mode, the camera can shoot RAW, JPEG of various qualities, as well as RAW + JPEG. Recording is on a single SD card.
As for video modes, in addition to Rec709, SLog2 and SLog3, the camera has HLG capabilities and can shoot 4K at up to 30 fps, while slo-mo is possible at up to 120 fps in HD. 4K video is recorded with full sensor readout without pixel binning. It has a pop-up OLED viewfinder, built-in flash and a viewing screen that can be adjusted to virtually any angle, including rear-facing subject for self-monitoring.
