New Sony PZ1 player

Sony has announced its new 4K player for SxS memory cards. The PMW-PZ1 has been designed to facilitate the review of 4K or HD material both on set and in post production.

Its 4K playback capabilities range from 24p to 60p with XAVC Intra and Long codecs. There is also talk of a firmware update coming after launch in June that will bring support for XAVC S-Long, MPEG HD and MPEG HD422.

The PZ1 features a color LCD front panel. Inputs and outputs available include an SxS card slot, an HDMI output for connection to external professional monitors, four 3G/HD-SDI outputs, and left and right analog audio outputs. In addition, there are two USB connections for connecting a mouse and copying material directly from the SxS to an external storage device, with data verification and automatic creation of a log in CSV format.

The PMW-PZ1 is expected to launch in June for a price of less than $3,500.
