This week we learned about the latest firmware update for the Atomos Shogun 7 monitor. The new update enables multi-camera signal switching, monitoring of four signals at once and ISO recording. These new features in version 10.4 are probably already familiar to you. A few months ago atomos also announced the possibility of multi-camera recording on their SUMO monitors and now they have implemented it in Shogun as well.
The monitor allows the input of up to four different HD video signals at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. As for monitoring, the on-screen display of all four signals at the same time allows us to switch and choose between any of the 4 signals with a simple touch on the touch screen. It not only allows us to monitor all 4, but also to record the signals independently on an SSD disk in Apple ProRes or Avid DNx. It also allows us to record a channel with the program and for this we also export an XML with live editing data to take it to any editing program and finish polishing the final piece. The output of the final program is transmitted through an HDMI port , SDI or both ports at the same time.
For audio recording, the Shogun 7 10.4 allows us to record two audio channels for each video signal, although if we have a master audio signal, it is also possible to record it through the XLR input. In the first case, we can choose whether we want the audio to change also with each video signal selection we make or if we want to always keep the same audio regardless of the video signal we choose.
Atomos maintains the basic principle of a filming monitor as is the analysis of the image and for this it gives us the option to view a single video signal with the waveform monitors , peaking… to control at all times the quality of our video signal.
The new version 10.4 is now available for download on the Atomos website. Atomos and is completely free of charge.
