New version of Media Composer

Avid has unveiled details of its latest version of Media Composer, with new timeline features to speed up the editing process and more media.

During NAB, Avid announced its upgrade by introducing subscription models, which included an annual license for $49.99 per month and a perpetual license for $1,299 total(see here for the rest of the options available). Now, the company has joined the current trend of releasing many updates throughout the year instead of one major software overhaul.

New additions include the Avid Image Sequencer plug-in, which allows you to work natively with DPX files, as well as the ability to work with stereoscopic clips in multi-camera mode. In this case, the metadata of the “dominant eye” will be displayed within the bin.

Now, during playback you can mute or unmute individual clips by simply right-clicking on them. In the same way, entire tracks can be activated or deactivated.

The timeline comes with several new features:

  • Tracks are now marked with “end of trim” indicators, to signal when they have reached their start or end points.
  • Trim rollers can be added or removed by clicking and Shift-clicking at the same time on a cut.
  • Any segment can be copied by Shift-Option and dragging.
  • Titles can be saved directly in the timeline as well as in the bins.

Finally, added supports for the 64-bit AAX plugins used by ProTools; for Amira material, with automatic color transformations based on ARRI metadata; and an updated AMA plugin for Red that supports the current Red SDK.

On this page you can see all the features of Avid Media Composer.

And with this we say goodbye until September, have a great vacation!
